Newbiggin Community Area Partnership (CAP)
What
is the aim of the Partnership?
The Partnership's aims and purpose is to enable residents
in Newbiggin-by-the-Sea to play an active, leading role in
the forming of decisions, strategies and initiatives to address
the economic and social disadvantages experienced by local
people and rebuild community resources.
The Partnership may address any number of issues affecting
the development of the area and well-being of residents such
as environmental, educational, employment, health, housing,
personal and social development needs.
What
are the benefits of being involved?
You, and the groups or organisations you represent can
have an input into the decisions made about significant, long
term improvements in your local area. You may also find out
about new initiatives or services in your area. The Partnership
aims to be of benefit to and build the capacity of local individuals,
groups and organisations and so develop community led responses
to issues which affect the lives of residents in the area.
How
can you become involved in the Partnership?
The
Newbiggin CAP is
a membership organisation. Members are representatives from
local community groups, service deliverers eg.schools, local
businesses and Council Officers. Elected Council members are
Associate members. The role of a member is to speak and vote
on behalf of their group or service, and feed information
back to them from the Partnership.
If you
would like to represent your group or organisation please
contact Jenny Costello, Community Partnership Officer on 01670
843206 who will tell you what to do next.
How
has it all come about?
The
Newbiggin-by-the-Sea CAP is
one of six Community Partnerships across Wansbeck. They represent
the grass roots level involvement in the Wansbeck Initiative
(the area's Local Strategic Partnership) - a body set up under
government guidance to allow different organisations involved
in service delivery, local business and communities to work
together towards the improvement of the local area.
How
often does the Partnership meet?
The
Partnership meets every 2 months on a Thursday evening, usually
at the Sports & Community Centre. It has an elected Management Committee
which meets also bi-monthly on a Monday evening.
