Newbiggin
by the Sea SureStart works with pregnant mothers, children
up to the age of 4 years, and their families/carers, living
within the Newbiggin by the Sea SureStart Area. We have been
guaranteed funding by the government up to April 2008.
In October
2002 Marjorie, our Co-ordinator and Allison and Julie, our
two Community Project Workers came into post and the development
of the SureStart programme began (see What's On below). In
2003 our Administrator Alison Brown joined the team and Julian Wales joined in 2006.

Julie, Allison and Marjorie attended the Partners in Excellence Awards in Lancaster House, St. James' Palace, London, on Monday 4th December 2006. Our SureStart Children's Centre was short listed for their work with the Community Dental Health Service and families, which has reduced the levels of tooth decay in children by 17% since 2004. Surestart won in the category of "Promoting Children's Well-being" and the award was presented by Cherie Booth (the wife of the Prime Minister). Well done to everyone who helped us to achieve these great results, especially the parents who took part. The award and photographs are on display in the Children's Centre. |
